Perennial herbs, rhizomatous. Leaves Alternate, linear, parallel veined, base sheathing. Flowers in spike or more often umbellate cymes, each enclosed in 2 opposed bracts (spathes) and termed a rhipidium, which may be solitary and terminal. Flowers Bisexual, showy, actinomorphic; Perianth segments; filiform or trumpet-shaped; Anthers extrose; Placentation axile; Style filiform, slender. Fruit loculicidal capsule.

Medicinal uses :
- Reduces the sour vomiting and profuse salivation along with blood and bile
- Helps to remove the feeling of something liquid boiling inside mouth and tongue as if injured
- Lessens the feeling of continuous motion, like watery with burning sensation at anus and entire intestinal tract
- Helps to recover from deafness accompanied with different noises like buzzing, ringing and roaring in ears
- Tendency to reduce headache, beginning with blurring vision after relaxing after intense mental activity
